ANOTHER CHANGE OF DATES OF IMPLEMENTATION?

It was previously announced by the Minister of Basic Education that the new curriculum (the CAPSs) would be introduced in 2012. We have now learned that all that is definite at this stage is that the CAPSs for the Foundation Phase will be implemented then. The Minister is due to make an announcement in the near future about the other phases.
At a teachers’ Conference held on 23 October, the SG for Education in the KZN, who serves on the Ministerial Project Committee, the committee revising the curriculum, gave assurances that all comments submitted by teachers and others would be taken seriously. He did, however, indicate that they often receive conflicting comments, which causes some people to complain that the department did not listen to them. Time will tell …
